Merkit started in 2005 with two songs. Nevin wrote guitar/bass (which he never played before), vocals and drums for an entire song and recorded it with a friend. John Fahy did the same and asked Joe for help with drums. After those two songs sat around for a while, we decided to start a band. We asked chris to play drums and thus Merkit was born. All members write music and lyrics. John and Nevin switch off playing bass and singing. The songs are sometimes simple, sometimes complex, and alwalys fun. As of now, we have a demo and a 7", two split 7"s, a split LP and have been on a few comps...that we have yet to see! We toured the east coast and parts of the midwest four times and even made it to Europe this past summer. We hope to make it back there and over to the west coast too. Merkit is mean d.i.y. hardcore played by nice dudes.

John Fahy is 25, plays bass and sings. He keeps things running at a furniture place and loves horror movies. He now has 2 issues of his horror movie zine: Your Day Will Come out, has a few releases on his label, Human Crush Recordings and just got added as a columnist in MRR. John grew up in Long Island and lived in Ireland for a while. He enjoys "double fisting" beers, tells great stories, loves hanging out, and can give you 1 million reasons why Evasion sucks.

Nevin Marshall just turned the big 3-0! He switches up bass and vocal duties with John. He owns a sweet-ass house and teaches history to 6th graders. He has a bunch of releases out on his label*IFB* Records/Distro and has one of the best distros going. Nevin has been into h/c forever and loves every second of it. Nevin is handy as fuck and can build shit like a motherfucker. He loves fishing, skatebording and has a great (not to mention, loud) laugh.

Chris Donaldson is 21 and plays drums. He goes to college in Miami and just started up a new band called, SLOAN PETERSON. He also has been known to fill in for MEHKAGO N.T. He also has a label called Drugged Conscience which has about 20 releases. Chris loves candy and has undoubtedly the worst diet of any of us. Keep your eyes peeled and i'm sure you see him driving his mini-van all over the state. Chris once brought his own waffle iron to Waffle House.

Joe Lachut is 26 and plays guitar. He works as a screen printer. He does a hc/punk fanzine called SEVEN INCHES TO FREEDOM which now has 6 issues out and runs a small label called, What The Fuck Happened To Tapes? Records! Joe likes doing layouts and art for all things punk and secretly wishes he could play in a pretty-sounding band. He is content with not leaving the house much, loves Beavis and Butthead and can still recite most of the lines.
